What to Write in a Baby Gift Note
After seeing thousands and thousands of gift notes come through with our baby gift baskets, we've learned something: you don't have to write something profound to make a baby gift feel personal.
Some of the sweetest notes are only a sentence long. Others are heartfelt, funny, sentimental—or signed by an entire office.
But before we get to what to write, here's our #1 piece of advice: Sign your name.
It sounds obvious, but you would be surprised how many people forget! When a beautiful baby gift basket arrives at someone’s door, they definitely want to know who sent it.
So, what should you write? Here are some of the different kinds of baby gift notes we see every day.
The Straightforward, No-Nonsense Note
There is absolutely nothing wrong with keeping it simple.
“Congratulations on your beautiful new baby! Wishing your family so much happiness.”
Or even:
“Congratulations! We are so happy for you and can’t wait to meet the newest addition.”
Short, sweet, and done.
The Heartfelt “Welcome to the World” Note
These are some of our favorites, especially when the gift is being sent by grandparents, close friends, or family.
“Welcome to the world, little one. You are already surrounded by so much love.”
“A beautiful new adventure begins. Wishing your family a lifetime of love, laughter, and wonderful memories together.”
“Welcome, sweet baby. We can’t wait to watch you grow.”
A Favorite Line, Poem or Prayer
Sometimes people include a meaningful line from a poem, a blessing, or a prayer. This can be especially lovely when the words have special meaning to your family or friendship.
You don’t need to fill the entire card. A favorite line followed by a simple personal message can be incredibly meaningful.
“May your little one always know how deeply they are loved. Congratulations to your beautiful family.”
The Group Gift
We see lots of baby gift baskets sent from coworkers, departments, teams, and groups of friends.
You can keep the message warm without trying to make it sound like 14 people collectively wrote it:
“We are all so excited for you! Wishing you and your growing family lots of love and happiness.”
Then—and this is important—list everyone’s names.
If the gift is from the whole office, don’t make the new parents try to figure out who “All of Us” actually includes.
The Funny Baby Note
If you have that kind of relationship, skip the sentimental message and make them laugh.
“Congratulations on your adorable new alarm clock!”
“Welcome to parenthood, where sleeping in means 7:00 a.m.”
“Congratulations! Your tiniest new boss has officially arrived.”
“Wishing you lots of love, lots of snuggles, and eventually…lots of sleep.”
Sometimes funny is exactly right.
The “Future…” Note
We also love when the gift note plays off something the parents love.
Is Dad a golfer?
“Congratulations on your future favorite golf partner. May the naps be long and the drives be straight.”
A family of sports fans?
“Welcome to the newest member of the team! The jersey may be a little big right now, but give it time.”
Foodies?
“Congratulations on your newest dinner guest. Fair warning: the early reviews of the menu may be mixed.”
Travelers?
“Welcome to your favorite new travel companion. They pack light…for approximately the first five minutes.”
These are especially fun because they make a baby gift feel like it was chosen just for that family.
The Most Important Part
There really isn’t a perfect thing to write in a baby gift note.
Heartfelt is wonderful. Funny is wonderful. Two sentences are plenty. And “Congratulations—we are so happy for you!” works every single time.
What matters is that someone took the time to celebrate this huge moment in their life.
And if you're sending one of our baby gift baskets, we'll include your personal gift note so it arrives right along with your gift. Just please remember to sign it.
Just please remember to sign it.
